Cylinders for aircraft applications are manufactured from either plate or tube made from high strength steel alloys (chromium molybdenum or nickel chromium molybdenum).
The plate is cold drawn, hot forged, heat treated and quenched and the tube is hammered or spun, heat treated and quenched to give the necessary mechanical properties.
The aircraft cylinders are used in both military and commercial applications. These applications include backup breathing air for pilots, ejector seat operation, and other operational/fire-fighting systems.
